MUSTANG (A MUltiple Space and Time scale Approach for the quaNtification of deep saline formations for CO2 storaGe) is a four year large-scale project (from 2009 to 2013). It is funded by the EU 7th Framework Programme (FP7).
MUSTANG aims at contributing to the development of the CO2 capture and storage technology (CCS), which can contribute to the mitigation of the greenhouse effect.
MUSTANG’s objectives are the following:

to develop guidelines, methods and tools for the characterization of deep saline aquifers for long term storage of CO2, based on a solid scientific understanding of the underlying critical processes;

to develop a methodology for performance and risk assessment related to de CO2 storage in saline aquifers;

to apply these methodologies to one of the test sites;

to prepare a decision support system (DDS) in order to assist the decision-making process on CCS.
